Two hundred years ago, the Roaches swept across the Earth, annihilating everything in their path. Humanity’s remnants retreated behind the walls of Acadia—a militarized city where every citizen’s worth is dictated by a ruthless merit score. Earn enough points and you live in safety. Fall short, and you’re Rifted—cast into the depths beyond salvation.
Jessica teeters on the edge of that fate, forced into the Mahghetto—an unforgiving gauntlet where failure means death. Cojax is a young soldier desperate to prove himself in a society that sees him as expendable. When they uncover a long-guarded secret, the two are thrust into a conspiracy that could shatter Acadia’s rigid order and ignite a war it cannot win.
In Acadia, loyalty is rewarded… until the day it kills you.
Many years ago, I worked in law enforcement. While in the department, everything you were boiled down to your badge number, which was based on seniority. Even if you were the worst cop on the beat, you still got the best days off, the newest equipment, and the greatest opportunity for promotion if you had a low badge number. While on midnight shift, as a junior cop, when I was not chasing bad guys, I would spend my time thinking of a system that would be more fair. A system that would allocate the greatest resources to the areas where they would do the most good. Eventually, I developed the idea of a perfect meritocracy. The more I thought about it, the more complex the system became, until one day, unknowingly, I had developed the constructs of ACADIA.
Although parental guidance is suggested, the ACADIA series is appropriate for individuals who are fourteen or older.
